As part of the design of the public realm, Shankland
Cox undertook the detailed design and preparation
of tender documents for the construction of a
suspension Arch bridge. The Arch bridge structure
was designed for steel construction to integrate
effectively with the surrounding architecture. The
bridge crosses the Wadi, the main shopping and
entertainment area. Escalators, lifts and stairs
descend from the side of the Arch-bridge and
connect directly with the Wadi. A cascade water
feature enhances the appearance of the stone
walls on the side stairs. Accent lighting enabled
the bridge to become a gateway to the entrance of
the Financial Plaza.

travelator tunnel is designed as an
art walk subway incorporating a video
LED wall for artistic interpretations and
branding. The technology used is of
a high resolution 4mm pixel pitch and
true black screen with image quality of
5 times High Definition. The system is
capable of multiple feeds and merging
images to enhance the transitional
experience along the travelator walkway.
The system is also combined with high

Wadi Trellis, KAFD, Saudi Arabia
Client: Rayadah Investment Company (RIC)
|
|
Our firm prepare designs for a lighting
show display for the proposed trellis
which traverses the wadi and park along
a 600m long stretch. The lighting theme
proposed is based on the "Flying Robes
Effect". The technique makes use of light
reflections off the trellis fins to provide light
at pedestrian level as well as from above.
The effect outlines the direction of each fin,
emphasizes a variation of light intensities
and works with the three dimensional
nature of the trellis structure, ultimately,
simulating the image of the flying robes
seen from all directions. The trellis lighting
system provides graphical content with full
video capabilities. Such a system is used to
control light intensities and colour which can
be coordinated with the dancing fountains
in the Wadi centre providing an experience
using water, lights and sound.
