Sector Development & Economics Studies
Shankland Cox has participated in several economic studies aimed at identifying appropriate requirements for port, airport, logistics and industries in serval countres.
These have included studies which examined the location for industrial land, port container back up requirements, areas for special industries associated to the port and airport logistics facilities, air cargo facilities, proposed new projects and feasibility assessment.
Suvarnabhumi Aerotropolis Development Plan. Bangkok.
Thailand Client: National Economic and Social Development Board. |
|
|
This project is dealt with the planning
of development for the Suvarnabhumi
aerotropolis which covers the area within
100Km, surrounding the Suvarnabhumi
Airport east of Bangkok. Shankland
Cox as part of a consortium of thai
firms undertook the preparation of a
development proposal for a 5 to 10
year period, 20 and 30 years period
starting from 2005 to accommodate
airport related uses within the ;proximity
of the airport in terms of commercial,
industrial, residential and other airport
related facilities. The strategy included
also the overall socioeconomic impact at
the metropolitan level resulting from the
relocation of all airport related activities
from the present Don Muang Airport to
the new airport. |
Hong Kong Airport Related Activities Client: Hong Kong Airport Authority
|
|
The Study of Airport Related Activities for
the new Hong Kong's airport undertaken
by Shankland Cox for the Airport
Authority identities those airport related
activities which are appropriate to the
replacement airport at Chek Lap Kok in
Lantau Island, Assess the feasibilities of
accommodate these within the airport
land and formulates a development
strategy to plan these uses accordingly.
The demand assessments were grouped
into related development projects
including office hotel complex, cargo
village, industrial park and business park
with a total of 1.2 million square meters
of net floor area. |
Lantau Logistics Park Development –Feasibility Study, Hong Kong Client: Civil Engineering and Development Department.
|
|
Following a study on the competitive
Strategy and Master Plan to strengthen
Hong Kong's role as the preferred
international and regional transportation
and logistics hub, Lantau Island was
selected as the preferred location for
a major Logistics Park development.
Shankland Cox was commissioned to
carry out the preparation of an Outline
Development Plan and engineering
feasibility for a 120 Ha site in this area.
The major objective for the development
was to provide an attractive site for
the location of a variety of logistics
services in close proximity to each
other and to the airport. In order to
foster logistics services integration, the
project must embrace the full range
of logistics services from conventional
transportation and freight forwarding
activities to value added services
including labeling, merge-in-transit,
manufacturing support, order taking, pick
and pack, repair, special packaging and
sub-assembly.
A total of 600,000m2 of floor space
was forecasted for the year 2010 to
be accommodated in building types
of two to three levels and having
high ceilings to optimize capacity
and operation. The project provided
guidelines for the development of shared
use facilities, office accommodation,
public transport terminus and indoor
recreational facilities. The Logistics
Park was associated to the development
of a Cross Boundary Transport Hub
benefiting from the location along the
Lantau-Macau-Zhuhai Bridge linking the
Eastern and Western section of the Pearl
River Delta area. The Cross boundary
Transport Hub will accommodate a new
rail station, parking facilities for coaches
and private cars, public transport
interchange, a commercial complex
and Hotel development. |
Tourism Market Research Project,Thailand
Client: Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)
|

Shankland Cox was commissioned to undertake tourism research studies to identify potential market sources and target groups, and subsequently to develop a marketing expenditure allocation strategy. Proposals were prepared within the scope of Thailand's National Economic and Social Development Plan. Specifically, the study was carried out to determine target tourist groups and tourism markets; estimate yearly marketing expenditures to be spent in each target market and finally compare Thailand's marketing expenditure with that of other countries. Based on the findings a strategy for marketing an appropriate allocation of expenditure was devised. |
